Ethnographic distribution of W. somnifera (Withania somnifera (L) Dunal in GBIF Secretariat 2021).
Africa is indigenous to numerous natural products. However, there is inadequate documentation of such products. There is, therefore, a need for a comprehensive compilation of the distinctive-relevant features of natural products in Africa.
The overarching objective of this research group is to provide the much-needed highlights on systematically selected natural products that are indigenous to the Africa continent, with the potential immediate significance of commercialization to benefit the economy of Africa. At the moment, we are objectively engaged in critically reviewing reported primary research data of African-origin medicinal plants as used in traditional medicine in different regions of Africa. Our most recent publication is "Critical review of the Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal: ethnobotany, pharmacological efficacy, and commercialization significance in Africa", https://doi.org/10.1186/s42269-021-00635-6 (PMID:34697529).
