UNITED NATIONS WORLD CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION DAY:
UNIDO GLOBAL CALL, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGSs) AND BROAD-BASED INVESTMENTS IN AFRICA
Introduction:
This e-conference is in continuance of the conversation advanced during the most recent UNIDO Global Call 2022 and in readiness for the ‘UNIDO Global Call 2023’. Additionally, engaging our own pie of the globe and alongside over 100, 000 people around the world, we commemorate the United Nations “World Creativity and Innovation Day” 2023 (21 April)
https://www.un.org/en/observances/creativity -and-innovation-day
Similar to the UNIDO Global Call which is managed by the Investment and Technology Promotion (ITP) Division of UNIDO and collaboratively implemented through its 9 global ITP Offices in Bahrain, Japan, Italy, Germany, Nigeria, Shanghai, Beijing, Russia and Korea, the World Creativity and Innovation Day calls on “the world to embrace the idea that innovation is essential for harnessing the economic potential of nations and that innovation, creativity and mass entrepreneurship can provide new momentum towards achieving the SDGs while achieving reduction in global development imbalances.
With just seven years to go and the huge set back on the global economy arising from impact of the pandemic, Africa is already significantly left behind in achievement of the SDGs. However, all hope is not lost as preliminary findings from our research and revelation from UNIDO Global Call show that although there are limited tools for innovation, what we call “the-intention-to-innovate” in Africa is very high. This conference is part of our intercontinental engagement series in feeling the pulse of innovation as we trudge towards contributing our quota to agenda 2030’s aspirations of ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all. This is because if the SDGs succeed everywhere else but fail in Africa, humanity has collectively failed to actualize our focus which is "that none be left behind".
